Big data has inundated the average person in some major ways. From the limitless internet people browse on a daily basis and the access to shopping at stores such as Walmart where transactions accumulate in these corporations enormous databases. It is no wonder the phrase appears so often in the headlines. It is becoming ubiquitous.
Shocked that Moneyball did not make the top ten, the following are the top five:
1. The Matrix – How BIG data helps Neo know Kung Fu
2. Office Space – Data geeks take out their frustrations in the printer scen
3. Minority Report – Interactive UI for the future of crime fighting
4. Tron – Enter the grid
5. Princess Bride – It takes some serious computing power to win this battle of wits
Scanning this list, we wonder whether or not SAP realizes the stretch they are making with some of these films on the list. Office Space, for example, is more about people who work with data in general--not big data. Regardless of the accuracy, one idea is clear: people are talking about big data and will sure enough realize the need for infrastructure solutions when it really floods in.
